La Rioja and Castilla y León

An unsung region of Spain

About midway between Madrid to the south and the Cantabrian and Atlantic Coast to the north is Spain’s trump card: La Rioja and Castilla y León, both part of the historic region of Vieille-Castille. In Castilla y León, you will have the pleasure of pedaling through the magnificent Cañón del Río Lobos Natural Park. This sheer-walled limestone canyon, with its pine and juniper forests, as well as numerous caves, is the epitome of wide open spaces and spectacular landscapes. Upon leaving the park, you will pedal to the city of Burgos with its rich Gothic architectural heritage, which includes its cathedral, the Monasterio de las Huelgas and the Cartuja de Miraflores.  Logroño, the other major city on your itinerary and the capital of La Rioja, is renowned for its many vineyards, DOC wines and Roman ruins. A great choice for a cycling holiday off the beaten path!
