Vacation paradise

Your route begins on the west coast in the tranquility of Alentejo, dubbed the bread basket of Portugal because of its golden undulating plains. You then head south via the immense Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, passing through Vila Nova de Milfontes and its beach untouched by tourists. With its whitewashed houses and cobbled streets, the distinctive village of Aljezur welcomes you to the Algarve. From there, you pedal down to Sagres, a surfer town, and Cap Saint-Vincent, with its 200-meter-high cliffs. On the southern coast, you come to the liveliest part of the Algarve, featuring the bustling city of Portimão and its famous Praia da Rocha beach. You round out this sunny excursion in the Vale do Guadiana Natural Park, with a final stop in São Domingos to marvel at its ancient open-pit mine. Here’s to the allure of the Algarve!
