Feast for the Eyes

Concentrated in the southern half of the country, this multifaceted route will take you from Alentejo and its endless plains to Lisbon along a craggy coastline. And if you are wondering what to see, be assured that you have many options! Architects will sing the praises of the medieval and Renaissance palaces, as well as the narrow Moorish streets of Évora — named a UNESCO world heritage site —, the fortified village of Marvão or the Convent of Christ in Tomar. Ceramists will tell you that nothing is more beautiful than the glazed tiles, particularly in Mafra. Some will rave about the carpets of Arraiolos, the pottery of Estremoz or the lace of Peniche, while others will talk only about the magnificent beaches and bluffs in Ericeira.  And many succumb exclusively to the infinite charms of Lisbon.
