We offer a cycling trip from Avignon, the former papal city, to the Luberon Natural Park, passing through the Dentelles de Montmirail, Mont Ventoux, and the Pays des Sorgues. This eight-day, seven-night itinerary offers the essentials of Vaucluse . The roads between vineyards and olive groves are perfect examples of what can be found in Provence and crisscross between towns and villages rich in history since Roman times .
We have created this eight-day cycling tour to start directly from Avignon, taking in the region's most prestigious wine appellations such as Châteauneuf du Pape and Roman monuments such as the ancient theater of Orange. Then this will be the Dentelles de Montmirail will fade away to make way for the Giant of Provence: Mont Ventoux. This legendary Tour de France mountain pass marks the entrance to a more hilly part of the region. A paradise for cyclists, the foothills of the Giant of Provence offer a multitude of routes, each more beautiful than the last, culminating in the Gorges de la Nesque. Next, you will head towards the Pays des Sorgues and the Luberon, famous for their hilltop villages.
During your vacation, you will stay one night in Avignon, two nights in Séguret, two nights in Venasque, and two nights in Fontaine de Vaucluse in three-star hotels.

Day 1
Our team will meet you at your hotel in Avignon to a briefingand answer all your questions. You will be based in a comfortable hotel close to the centerbustling city centerlively city center and its numerous cafes and restaurants.
Day 2
Avignon to Séguret
Distance: approximately 60 km (shorter option available – 40 km avoids Orange)
Elevation gain: approx. +469 m
You leave Avignon and cycle north on Barthelasse Island to the footbridge over the Rhône, which gives you access to the fabulous Châteauneuf du Pape wine region. Criss-cross a sea of vineyards, venture out for a tasting, then head to Orange for lunch. In Orange, a Roman city, the fabulous ancient theater is a must-see! Then head northwest towards the Dentelles de Montmirail massif! You will pass through the wine-growing villages of the southern Côtes du Rhône region, ending up at your hotel at the foot of the charming village of Séguret.
Day 3
Loop from Séguret to Vaison-la-Romaine and its surroundings
Distance: approximately 28 miles (longer option available)
Elevation gain: +755 m
From Séguret, cross the Dentelles mountains and head towards Vaison-la-Romaine, a town steeped in history with Roman and medieval ruins. Continue on to Puyméras, a picturesque little village offering panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains. Enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the landscape. Continue on to Roaix, a charming wine-growing village. Explore the vineyards and stop for a wine tasting at one of the local estates. On the way back, the village of Rasteau, notable for its medieval castle ruins, takes you back to the Rhône Valley and ends in Séguret.
Day 4
From Séguret to Venasque
Distance: approximately 50 km (long option available)
Elevation gain: approx. +770 m
From Séguret, head towards Gigondas and Vacqueyras, two of the best appellations in the Côtes du Rhône region, famous for their red wines. Continue on to Beaumes-de-Venise, known for its naturally sweet Muscat wine. Stop off at Lafare, a charming village in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail, ideal for lunch. Then head to La Roque-Alric for its panoramic views and historical heritage. Continue to Le Barroux, a medieval village with a castle open to visitors. Cross the Comtat Venaissin plain via Caromb and Mazan to end up in Venasque, one of the most beautiful villages in France.

From Venasque, there are a number of unforgettable bike routes to choose from, allowing you to explore the landscapes of Ventoux and its hilltop villages. Whether you opt for a route that takes you around the villages at the foot of Ventoux on small roads lined with cherry trees and Muscat grapes, or another on the Route des Gorges de la Nesque overlooking a breathtakingly beautiful canyon, there are plenty of options to choose from. For the more adventurous, why not try climbing Mont Ventoux and its 21 kilometers of demanding ascent through forests and lunar landscapes?
Day 6
From Venasque to Fontaines de Vaucluse
Distance: between 38 and 55 km
Elevation gain: between +420 and 560 m
When leaving Venasque, you have two options. The first, via Pernes les Fontaines, L'Isle sur la Sorgue, and Fontaine de Vaucluse, takes you to the Sorgue region and the refreshing Sorgues River. The second takes you south to climb the Monts du Vaucluse towards Sénanque Abbey and then Gordes, before ending at Fontaine de Vaucluse. Depending on the day, you can enjoy the market at L'Isle sur la Sorgues, one of the best known in Provence.
Day 7
Loop to the hilltop villages of the Luberon
Distance: between 38 and 62 km
Elevation gain: between +500 and 800 m
Three cycling routes to discover the hilltop villages of the Luberon, made famous by Peter Mayle's book "A Year in Provence." Starting from Fontaine-de-Vaucluse and crossing the southern plains lined with orchards, you will explore the Luberon, dotted with villages straight out of fairy tales and landscapes carpeted with truffle oaks, old farmhouses, and orchards of all kinds. And in the midst of this enchanting setting are the famous hilltop villages that have made its reputation: Oppède-le-Vieux is lost in time, engulfed by vegetation, almost haunted; Lacoste is crowned by the ruins of the Marquis de Sade's castle; Bonnieux, with its cafés and small squares, invites you to stop for lunch; and finally, the village of Roussillon is painted in all the colors of the rainbow.
