We offer you a cycling holiday from Avignon, the former papal city, to the Luberon Natural Park, via the Dentelles de Montmirail, Mont Ventoux and the Sorgues region. This eight-day, seven-night itinerary offers the essentials of the Vaucluse. The roads between vineyards and olive groves are perfect examples of what you'll find in Provence, criss-crossing towns and villages rich in history dating back to Roman times. Roman era.
We have created this eight-day cycling holiday to start directly from Avignon along the routes of the region's most prestigious wine appellations such as Châteauneuf du Pape and Roman monuments such as Orange's ancient theater. Then it's will be the Dentelles de Montmirail, giving way to the Giant of Provence Provence: Mont Ventoux. This mythical Tour de France pass marks the entrance to a more hilly part of the region. A cyclist's paradise, the foothills of the Giant of Provence Provence offer a multitude of routes, each more beautiful than the last, culminating in the Gorges de la Nesque. Then you're off to the Sorgues region and the Luberon, famous for its hilltop villages.
During your vacation, you'll stay one night in Avignon, two nights in Séguret, two nights in Venasque and two nights in Fontaine de Vaucluse in three-star hotels.

Day 1
Our team will meet you at your hotel at Avignon for a a briefingand answer any questions you may have. You will be based in a comfortable hotel close to the center of Avignon.-city center and its cafés and restaurants.
Day 2
Avignon to Séguret
Distance: approx. 60 km (short option available - 40 km avoids Orange)
Difference in altitude: approx. +469 m
Leave Avignon and pedal north on the Île de la Barthelasse to the footbridge over the Rhône, which gives you access to the fabulous Châteauneuf du Pape wine appellation. Wind your way through an ocean of vines, venture out for a tasting session, then return to Orange for lunch. In the Roman town of Orange, the fabulous ancient theater is a must-see! Then head northwest to the Dentelles de Montmirail massif! You'll pass through the wine-growing villages of the southern Côtes du Rhônes, ending up at your hotel at the foot of the charming village of Séguret.
Day 3
Loop from Séguret to Vaison la Romaine and surrounding area

From Séguret, cross the Dentelles massif and head for Vaison-la-Romaine, a town rich in history with Roman and medieval remains. Continue on to Puyméras, a picturesque village offering panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains. Enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the landscape. Continue on to Roaix, a charming wine-growing village. Explore the vineyards and pause for a wine tasting at one of the local estates. On the way back, the village of Rasteau, notable for the ruins of its medieval castle, takes you back to the Rhône Valley, finishing in Séguret.
Day 4
From Séguret to Venasque
Distance: approx. 50 km (long option available)
Ascent: approx. +770 m
From Séguret, head for Gigondas and Vacqueyras, among the finest Côtes du Rhône appellations, famous for their red wines. Continue on to Beaumes-de-Venise, famous for its natural sweet Muscat. Stop off at Lafare, a charming village in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail, ideal for lunch. Then head to La Roque-Alric for its panoramic views and historic heritage. Continue on to Le Barroux, a medieval village with a castle open to visitors. Cross the Comtat Venaissin plain via Caromb and Mazan to finish in Venasque, one of France's most beautiful villages.

From Venasque, there are a number of unforgettable cycling routes to discover the Ventoux landscape and its hilltop villages. Whether it's an itinerary around the villages at the foot of the Ventoux on small roads lined with cherry trees and muscat grapes, or another along the route of the Gorges de la Nesque overlooking a canyon of dizzying beauty, the options are rich and varied. For the more adventurous, why not try the ascent of Mont Ventoux and its 21 kilometers of demanding climbing through forests and lunar landscapes.
Day 6
From Venasque to Fontaines de Vaucluse
Distance: between 38 and 55 km
Difference in altitude: between + 420 and 560 m
Leaving Venasque, you can choose between two options. The first, via Pernes les Fontaines, Isle sur la Sorgue and Fontaine de Vaucluse, takes you into Sorgue country and the refreshing Sorgues river. On the second, you head south to climb the Monts du Vaucluse to Sénanque Abbey and Gordes, before finishing at Fontaine de Vaucluse. Depending on the day, you can enjoy the market at Isle sur la Sorgues, one of the best-known in Provence.
Day 7
Loop to the hilltop villages of the Luberon
Distance: 38 to 62 km
Difference in altitude: between + 500 and 800 m
Three cycling itineraries to discover the hilltop villages of the Luberon, famous thanks to Peter Mayle's book "Un an en Provence". Departing from Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, you'll explore the Luberon's orchard-fringed southern plains, dotted with villages straight out of fairy tales and landscapes carpeted with truffle oaks, old farmhouses and orchards of all kinds. Oppède-le-Vieux is lost in time, swallowed up by vegetation, almost haunted; Lacoste is crowned by the ruins of the Marquis de Sade's castle; Bonnieux, with its cafés and little squares, invites you to take a lunch break; and finally, the village of Roussillon is painted in all the colors of the rainbow.
