From the Provence of the Popes to the Luberon – Self-guided
Duration: 8 days and 7 nights
Duration
14 nights
Level
3 - Moderate - hilly, sometimes mountainous - 50 to 80 km
In Italy, with its boot-shaped geography, the Riviera—which runs along the Mediterranean coast in the north of the country—is, in a way, the equivalent of the knee. On this sunny route, you can choose between a coastal route, mainly between Diano Marina and Viareggio, or a more challenging climb into the hinterland.
Along the way, you’ll pass through Genoa, the birthplace of the explorer Christopher Columbus, and have the opportunity to visit Cinque Terre and its villages, spectacularly perched on steep cliffs, whose vibrant beauty has earned them a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The final third of your trip will take on a more cultural tone as you leave the coast behind and cycle eastward toward Pisa and Florence. This is Italy at its most charming—you might even find yourself bowing in admiration!
