Thumbs up to the sky!

Formerly Iroquois territory, hard-fought for two centuries, the Finger Lakes region turned to wine in the 1830s. Today, it is New York State's leading producer, with over a hundred wineries offering mainly white wines.

So there are sweets to be savoured after a long day's cycling, in a setting that is both demanding and splendid. It's green with forests, but also deeply blue - the blue of the oblong lakes you'll have the pleasure of cycling along for most of the route: Cayuga, Seneca and Canandaigua. You're sure to come away with your thumb in the sky!
