From the Provence of the Popes to the Luberon – Self-guided
Duration: 8 days and 7 nights
Level
3 - Moderate - hilly, sometimes mountainous - 50 to 80 km
Your journey begins on the west coast in the peaceful Alentejo region, nicknamed "the breadbasket" because of its many golden fields. You drive south through the immense Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Natural Park, passing through Vila Nova de Milfontes and its popular beach. With its white houses and quiet streets, the typical village of Aljezur welcomes you to the Algarve.
From there, you descend to Sagres, a surfers' town, and Cape St. Vincent with its 200-meter-high cliffs. On the south coast, you enter the liveliest part of the Algarve, where Portimão and one of Portugal's most famous beaches, Praia da Rocha, are worthy representatives. You'll round off this sunny trip in the Vale do Guadiana Natural Park, then head to São Domingos and its ancient and majestic open-pit mine. You'll understand why this coast is so popular!
