Linking Toulouse to the Mediterranean, the Canal du Midi, built between 1667 and 1682, is considered the greatest engineering feat of the 17th century. Your journey, organized into loops around four stopover towns, will allow you to appreciate its ingenuity and explore it at your own pace. In Carcassonne, we suggest visiting the medieval citadel, whose fortifications stretch for nearly 3 km and house the Count’s Castle and the Basilica of Saint-Nazaire.
Looking for something different? Narbonne invites you to explore an underground labyrinth of ancient warehouses (horrea) dating back to Roman times. In Béziers, situated on a majestic promontory, you’ll admire the canal’s masterpiece: the nine locks of Fonseranes. Then in Sète, bordered by the Thau Lagoon and nicknamed the “Little Venice of Languedoc,” your final destination: the Mediterranean Sea and sandy beaches await you. What a delight as you cruise along the water!

4 STOPOVER CITIES: This way of traveling lets you settle in and take things at a very leisurely pace. Your itinerary, designed as a loop around four stopover cities, minimizes the number of trips you have to make and gives you plenty of time to explore and enjoy the places you visit. Enjoy!
